Marsh Chosen by Canadian Wildlife Federation as One of Canada's Greatest Hikes
One of
Ontario’s best kept secrets might not be a secret much longer. Wye Marsh,
located just outside of Midland, Ontario was recently chosen by Canadian
Wildlife (produced by the Canadian Wildlife Federation) as one Canada's
greatest wildlife hikes. The staff and volunteers of the Friends of Wye
Marsh are thrilled for the recognition and honored that Wye Marsh is in such
great company, with Algonquin Provincial Park and Point Pelee National Park to
represent Ontario amongst the 18 hikes across Canada. Wye Marsh is one of
Ontario's largest intact wetlands and gives visitors great opportunities to see
a variety of native wildlife species, from the magnificent trumpeter swans to
river otters and painted turtles. The Friends of Wye Marsh, a charitable
organization have been stewards over the 3,000 acre wetland for 30 years and
operate an education centre that provides visitors with the opportunities to
explore and experience nature through guided walks and paddling tours, and
interactive programs. The Friends of Wye Marsh are hoping
that the article will encourage more people not only to visit Wye Marsh but to
explore their local hiking trails as well. As a charity Wye Marsh relies
solely on the funds from admission fees and donations to continue to operate
their facility and programs that promote and foster environmental
stewardship. Recognition like this is invaluable to us and we look
forward to sharing our ‘gem’ with more wildlife enthusiasts this year.
